American Express Platinum Delta Skymiles

American Express Platinum Delta Skymiles

Let me begin by saying I never thought the miles would accumulate so easily. When my wife and I were married 5 years ago, one of the things we wanted to do was take a trip together each year during our anniversary month. So we signed up for the Platinum American Express Delta Skymiles card. It does have a yearly renewal fee, of $135 a year. The first year they waive the fee. I thought for sure we would cancel the card after the first year because of the fee. Was I ever wrong.

First of all, you get a free companion airline ticket when you renew. So right away you have a voucher for a free flight. Is that worth $135? You know it is, and so did I. In addition you can earn as many as 20,000 miles when you sign up, with a bonus 15,000 miles with your first purchase and an additional 5,000 miles with you get more than one card on the account, like one for you and one for your spouse. American Express has a killer website where you can track and manage your spending, where you spent and at the end of the year, they have an amazing year end summary- the first year it helped so much with my taxes I seriously couldn’t imagine not having this card now.

Needless to say, we have used the miles to go to Hawaii - for free. We have flown to California, Washington DC, Mexico and coming up in the fall, Canada. All for free by just putting what we normally spend on the card, and then paying it off every month. Currently I have over 200,000 miles! They rack up quickly with all the bonuses they offer. Double and triple miles in some cases. For example we bought flowers on Mother’s day and got 10 times the miles for each dollar we spent. Of course they offer double miles everyday as you earn two miles for every eligible dollar you spend when you use your Card at office supply stores, gas stations, home improvement and hardware stores, on your wireless phone bill payments, and on qualifying Delta purchases.

They add up quickly and easily. I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t have a rewards credit card that offers them benefits for what you are going to spend anyway - this is America and in this country you can really get something for nothing - if you use your card right.
